Just like that, November has come and gone, and with it went Luke and I’s second Hike it Baby 30 challenge. We met all of the personal goals I set for us at the beginning, and then some. It was a great month for us and I’m already pumped for the next one in January 2016.
I originally wanted to concentrate on trail miles this time around. While we did achieve my goal of hiking at least 30 trail miles together, I was surprised at how many miles we logged simply walking around our neighborhood. In the first half of the month and before the first winter storm of the season, Luke and I went for at least one hike or walk a day. On particularly good days, we went out twice!
One of the things I love most about these challenges is the perspective I get from seeing what other HiB families do across the world. Especially inspiring to me this time around were the families from Alaska, who went out in the snow and freezing cold like it was nothing. I got some great tips and inspiration from those hardcore parents! Their wintery hikes encouraged me to try them myself.
Now, without further ado, and because I love to keep track of our challenge stats, here’s what last month’s Hike it Baby 30 looked like for us:
Total distance: 75.48 miles (30.21 trail miles and 45.27 pavement miles) • Total minutes: 2,783 minutes
I led two hikes for our Hike it Baby branch and attended three others.
My favorite hikes of this challenge were:
Mueller State Park LoopMueller State Park
Blackmer Loop TrailCheyenne Canyon State Park
Volksmarch Red Fox TrailFox Run Regional Park
I want to try my best to keep up the momentum through the month of December, as well as add in a few different goals next time around. One that intrigues me is the goal of leading 30 miles worth of Hike it Baby hikes.
Until next time!
